Muriel Irene Scott, age 92, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2026, at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre in Barrie, Ontario. Born to the late Walter and Eleanor Corner, Muriel grew up in Lefroy, Ontario, as one of eight siblings in a close-knit, loving family.
Muriel leaves behind a beautiful legacy through her three daughters: Sandra Firman (Chuck) of Temagami, Nancy Scott of Gravenhurst, and Rhonda Mackenzie of Parry Sound.
The beloved Nana to Matthew Firman, Laura Sherwood, Lisa Zwarych, Sam Smallwood, and Jesse Mackenzie, Muriel was also the proud great-grandmother to Logan Alexander, Thoren Zwarych, and Zachary Sherwood.
Muriel deeply adored her brothers and sisters and cherished every moment spent with them. She is survived by her sisters Marjorie Cole (Richard), Wendy Gould (the late Garnet), and Eleanor McDowell (Brian), as well as many loving nieces and nephews. Muriel was predeceased by her sisters Mary Speare (Bob) and Mildred Smith, and her brothers Edward Corner and Alfred Corner (Pat).
A dedicated mother, Muriel was also integral to a family business. She would also provide her skills to the Royal Victoria Hospital and enjoyed a successful career as a real estate professional. She was always kind, professional and a valued employee. True to her giving nature to others, Muriel was a volunteer for the Salvation Army and Meals on Wheels, as well.
Active all of her life, Muriel was an avid golfer (member of Barrie Golf & Country Club), loved to skate, swim and walk, enjoyed baking and cooking as well as creating a beautiful home. She held a special place in her heart for dogs.
Muriel was a giving and loving matriarch. Modest, honest and with a keen intellect, she instilled strong values in her daughters and never ceased in her care and concern for them and their families.
Her warmth, grace, and enduring love will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Private family arrangements have been entrusted to Jennett Memorial Centre, Barrie.
