Zofia Dorota Sochacka was born March 22, 1935 in Warsaw, Poland to Józef Widort and Jadwiga nee Bielkiewicz. She spent her early childhood in Volhynia, where her father was an officer in the Polish Army. After World War II broke out Dorota and her mother fled; her father was eventually captured and killed as part of the Katyń Massacre. After the conclusion of the war, she and her mother settled in Warsaw, where she received an engineering degree from Politechnika Warszawska. In the 1980s Dorota emigrated to Toronto. She lived there until her marriage to her second husband, Stanisław Augustynowicz, and they settled in Mississauga. Dorota was a glider pilot, passionate bridge player, and a lover of cats. She is survived by cousins in Canada and Poland.
