Obituary

It is with much sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Yvonne Jacques (nee Sampson) at Arnprior Regional Hospital on November 4, 2026 in her hundredth year.

Yvonne is predeceased by her husband Thomas Jacques (1992), her partner of 20 years Cameron Spec (2024), and her sister Jean Common (2012).

Yvonne will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Victoria Recoskie (James) and the light of her life, her grandson Thomas Recoskie.

Yvonne was born in the tiny farming hamlet of Moosomin, Saskatchewan on May 24, 1927. It was on this farm that she developed her love of gardening and her formidable culinary skills, learned under the watchful eye of her mother. Yvonne was an avid knitter and an excellent seamstress, often fashioning sweaters for her daughter and Halloween costumes for her grandson.

Yvonne left the farm to train as an X-ray technical in Saskatoon, where she met her husband, Thomas. The early years of their marriage were spent in various locales across western Canada, until Thomas took a transfer to Sudbury where they resided until retirement beckoned and they relocated to their Manitoulin Island home.

Yvonne loved to entertain and her parties were legendary, be it happy hour on the deck, progressive dinner parties or hosting the annual White’s Point picnic, no entertaining challenge was too much for her. She had a large circle of lifelong friends, adding new ones at every new place she lived. It is our greatest hope that she is now reunited with her friends, laughing and enjoying their company once again.

Our family thanks the staff at Arnprior Regional Hospital for their kindness, compassion, and excellent care of Yvonne, especially nurses Steve in the ER and Veronika and Sara on the 1st floor.

Per Yvonne’s wishes there will be no formal memorial service. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Arnprior Regional Health Foundation are much appreciated.
