Wolfhart Oskar Erich Freier, born on April 5, 1945 in Germany passed away at Brightshores Health System in Owen Sound on January 29, 2026 at the age of 80.
He immigrated to Canada in 1965 where he later met and married his wife, Brigitte Frank on November 1, 1969. As a licenced butcher he was employed by Loblaws (known as Ziggys) as a District Service Specialist, moved from there to open a meat and deli store in Toronto and then a franchised restaurant before retiring.
Wolfhart (Willie) was known for his love of food, cooking & meal presentation. He had a passion for history, boats and sports, primarily soccer and hockey. He was what you would call a “couch athlete”.
Willie is predeceased by his parents and his wife Brigitte Freier (nee Frank). He will be sadly missed by his sisters-in-law Monika Maizis, Marion Hartwick (Richard) & Loretta Birimcombe (Dale). Survived by his nieces, nephews and cousins, Didi Siemering (Brigitte), Dirka Koch (Hannes) and Brigitte Siemering from Germany.
We would like to thank the Brightshores Health System for keeping him comfortable in his last days and his companion Debbie Hall for all her help. A thank you also goes out to Basic Funeral and Cremation Choices, Grey County along with Barrie Union Cemetery for their incredible support.
A private burial will take place at Barrie Union Cemetery in Spring 2026.
May Willie rest in eternal peace.
