Władysława Adolfa Szantyr

June 17, 1932 — September 16, 2025

With deep sorrow and Christian hope, we announce the passing of Władysława Adolfa Szantyr on September 16, 2025, in Mississauga, Canada.

Władysława was born on June 17, 1932, in Okonin, Poland, the eldest daughter of Marian Chojnacki of Radwanowice and Józefa Wujcik of Brzoskwinia. She was the beloved wife of the late Edmund Szantyr (†2017). She is survived by her loving daughter Marzena Wspaniały and cherished grandson Patrick Wspaniały, who were the joy of her life. She will also be remembered by her siblings: Teofila, Anna (“Hania”), Bolesław, Danuta, and Grażyna, and is predeceased by her brother Theodor ("Dorek") (†2025) and sister Michalina (†2020).

She worked as an accountant in Szczecin, Poland, before immigrating to Mannheim, Germany, in 1986 and finally to Toronto, Canada, in 1994, together with her husband, to join their daughter and grandson.

Władysława was a woman of simple but steady faith, hardworking and loving, who found joy in her family, in walking or driving through nature, in lively conversation, and in music and prayer. She especially loved listening to André Rieu concerts, “Got Talent” shows, and following Mass and devotions online from Jasna Góra Monastery, before the beloved Black Madonna of Częstochowa. Her final parish community in Canada was St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish, Mississauga.

Although she often felt unsure in prayer, in her final days she began praying the Rosary with her family. Through grace, she taught her loved ones what she herself had once struggled to know. This gift of prayer and deeper faith is her most enduring legacy.

A Funeral Mass will be offered for the repose of her soul (details to be announced), following cremation.

“Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace. Amen.”
