William (Bill) Stevens

It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Bill Stevens on September 5, 2026, at the age of 74.

Born in West Hill in 1952, Bill dedicated his life to serving others. His career began in 1975 with Toronto EMS, where he worked as a paramedic for 16 years. During his final years with EMS, Bill served as a Specialized Paramedic with The Toronto Police Service's Public Order Unit, bringing courage, skill, and compassion to some of the most challenging situations imaginable.

In March 1991, Bill began the next chapter of his career, following in the footsteps of his father, retired Captain Thomas Stevens of the Scarborough Fire Department, as a firefighter with the Scarborough Fire Department, where he remained at Hall 211 throughout his 22-year career. He retired on July 1, 2013. Bill was proud of the work he did, but what mattered most to him were the people beside him and those he was able to help. His dedication to his brotherhood, his community, and his profession left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to have worked with him.

Bill’s creativity was equally remarkable. His firefighter crew recognized his artistic talent and encouraged him to pursue his passion for tattooing, a craft that became another meaningful part of his life.

A true community-minded man, Bill coached his children’s baseball and hockey teams for many years. Away from work and coaching, Bill loved the outdoors and adventure. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, cycling, pickleball, woodworking, travelling, and riding his motorcycle.

Above all else, Bill was a family man. He and his beloved wife, Brenda, shared 40 years of marriage. Together they built a family and a home defined by love, generosity, and an open door which included fostering numerous children.

Bill will be deeply missed by his wife, Brenda Stevens; his children, Lindsay, Thomas (TJ) (Nicole), Jake, and Taylor (Iwan); and his grandchildren, Mercedes, Idris, Charlie, and Hannah. He is also survived by his siblings, John and Carol, and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, Tom and Elizabeth, and his sister, Cathy.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all of the staff and caregivers at Glen Hill Strathaven and Bowmanville Hospital who dedicated their time, compassion, and care to Bill. Your kindness and support will never be forgotten.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in Bill's memory to the Alzheimer Society of Canada or the Maritime Brain Tissue Bank.
