It is with great sadness that the family of William (Bill) Lee announces his passing on June 4, 2026 at the Ottawa Hospital – General Campus. Bill fought courageously against cancer and passed peacefully with family by his side at the age of 83. William leaves behind his wife of 44 years Winnie, daughter Amy (Lee), son Benjamin (Leanne) and grandchildren Mikayla and Theodore.

William journeyed from China to Sioux Lookout, ON at the young age of 9, with his sisters Ping and Jean (Harry). They were later joined by Raymond (Carie) and Ellen. From there, he travelled to Montreal and completed his Electrical Engineering degree from George Brown in 1964. He moved to Ottawa shortly after for work with BNR and Transport Canada before retiring with NAV Canada in 2005.

William’s gentle nature, generosity and positive spirit have touched all those who have crossed his path. As a member of the Ottawa Chinese United Church for over 20 years, he shared his faith as a teacher, usher, treasurer, and AV Tech. He then joined Cedarview Alliance as a dedicated member of the congregation. He was a great supporter, leader, and participant of events throughout the years with the Prostate Cancer Support Ottawa. His experience in running coffee meetups led to the organic creation of the Carlingwood Mall support group that attracted all in need of a friendly chat over food and drinks.

William’s zest for life showed in a variety of hobbies over his lifetime. He enjoyed travelling and enjoying new cultures, especially food; photography and a variety of sports including sailing, bowling, cross country skiing, and fishing. His love of the outdoors always had him bike riding with his children, taking them to the local parks and cheering on their numerous sport activities. His inquisitive nature had him constantly MacGyvering things around the household. He instilled his love of music to his children teaching them how to play guitar and piano while keeping a large record collection and digital library of music to listen to at home and in the car.

William is already dearly missed by friends and family. He will be forever remembered and we are comforted knowing he is at peace and with the Lord.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Urology Oncology at the Ottawa Hospital Foundation in memory of William. Donations can be made online or by phone 613-761-4295.
