Obituary

Vera Zalucky (80) born July 28, 1946 in Berchtesgaden, Germany. Daughter of Sophia and Volodymyr Makarewych, eldest sister of Luba and Nadia. Wife of Eugene Zalucky and mother of Juliana, Alexandra (Zandra) and Halyna.

Vera was a vivacious woman. She shone on stage as a talented singer, dancer and actress. She has fond memories of attending Mount Mary Immaculate Academy in Ancaster, where she was often the lead of the show with the angelic Sister Loretta conducting the choir and playing piano.

Vera continued to become a teacher of drama and special education within the Toronto District Catholic School Board, teaching at nine different schools. She was adored by her students with whom she would create elaborate concerts with song and dance. Students were encouraged to just be themselves and through her mentorship, built confidence both on and off stage.

Vera also sang in “Verhovyna,” a leading quartet within the Ukrainian Canadian community. The quartet performed throughout Canada and the United States.

A mother of three daughters, she was unwavering in the love and support she showed Juliana, Zandra and Halyna to pursue their dreams. She was a loving wife and daughter, taking good care of her husband Eugene and mother Sophia, now 100.

She will always be remembered for her class, charisma and caring heart.

She remained true to herself until her final breath.
