1932-2026

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Vera Lay, on January 9, 2026 at the age of 93, at Trinity Village Long Term Care in Kitchener, Ontario. Mom was born in Ituna, Saskatchewan on October 27, 1932 to her loving parents Monroe Lewis Lay who was born in Cherokee Nation, Indian Territory, now Oklahoma, USA and Mildred Estelle Walton, who was born in Dauphin, Manitoba. She was predeceased by her four brothers and four sisters and one daughter who died at birth.

She is survived by:

Her three children Andrew (Bev) Perkull, Dwayne (Angela) Perkull, Sheila (Dave) Bodemer; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren and many cousins, nephews and nieces and their families.

When Vera was diagnosed with dementia, and later a short battle with cancer, it was devastating to her but she continued to trust in Jehovah and looked forward to paradise where everyone would be healthy again. (Isaiah 33:24 – “And no resident will say: ‘I am sick.”)

A memorial service will take place on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the 185 Swallow Street, Waterloo, ON, Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.
