It is with a heavy heart to announce the passing of Thomas Ross Hill on December 4th, 2024.
Tom is survived by his three children, Shawn Hill (Melissa Acheson, deceased), Natasha Frederick (Paul Frederick), Joshua Hill and his four grandchildren, Max (19), Samuel (16), Levi (14) and Violet (13). Tom is predeceased by his loving wife of 46 years, Wendy Hill (Cross), his parents, Thomas Ralph Hill and Pearl Gladys Hunter and his two sisters June Ducharme and Lynda Tackaberry.
Born and raised in Ottawa, Ontario, Tom was a proud graduate of the Journalism program at Carleton University. His first job was working as a photojournalist at a community newspaper before landing his dream job as a columnist for the Ottawa Citizen. Always the entrepreneur, Tom left the Citizen to pursue his passion for personal computers. He created two successful businesses, EasyWeb and Tech2Go. Tom was in his element when helping others navigate the world of computer technology.
Not only a talented entrepreneur, Tom was a phenomenal husband, father and grandfather. Tom’s children have fond memories of their Dad supporting them in all their passions, including allowing Shawn to turn the basement into a “jam room” for his various bands, driving Natasha to endless figure skating practices and cheering on Josh at hockey. Tom was a frequent volunteer on numerous school field trips and took great pride in his children's accomplishments.
Aside from computers, Tom had many interests. In his earlier years, he was an avid runner and cyclist. Tom also loved cars. His pride and joy was his 1986 Camero, although Wendy was always concerned that he drove it too fast…which of course he did. An avid reader, Tom loved learning about historical events. His vast general knowledge made him a killer Jeopardy opponent. Tom was also wildly creative, witty and an amazing writer. He loved dogs and Stripe, Maggie and Buffy were his faithful companions. He tolerated the family cats.
Tom was a kind, thoughtful, positive, encouraging and insightful human. He was a genuinely nice guy with a good heart.
Hug mom for us and enjoy that ice cream!
Rest in peace Dad.
