Stamatios Sakellis

May 28, 1937 — November 18, 2025

Peacefully, with his family at his side at his home in Scarborough Ontario, on the 18th day of November 2025, Stamatios (Tom) Sakellis, born on May 28th , 1937 in the village of Antimachia, on the island of Kos, Greece, was called upon by his Lord and saviour, Jesus Christ.

Cherished husband of 53 years, to Fotini (Effie) Sakellis, beloved father to his daughter Christina Sakellis (John Pispidikis), and son, George Sakellis (Maria Angelatos-Sakellis). Admired grandfather of Paraskevi, Stamatios, Fotini, Dimitri, Kosta and Anthony. In addition to his grandchildren, he is survived by several Godchildren, nieces and nephews in both Greece, Canada and the United States of America, which he always adored.

Upon arriving to Canada from Greece as a young man in 1955, Stamatios called London, Ontario home for several decades. He would eventually build a loving family, be President of the Olympians Soccer club for the Hellenic Community of London, Ontario in 1985, and establish several local restaurants as both a sole proprietor or partner. His fondest restaurant operations consisted of "Olympians" in London, Ontario, "New Dino's" in Dorchester, Ontario as well as "Tommy's Place", which served locations in both London and Dorchester, Ontario. Stamatios enjoyed the daily interactions with customers, who would later become like family. The relationships he built over a lifetime serving his community in the restaurant business are still preserved by his family, even after his passing.

After retiring in 2010, both Stamatios and the love of his life, Effie, who he married in Rhodes, Greece in the summer of August 1972, elected to move to Toronto, Ontario as they transitioned to a new city which would bring them closer to their children and grandchildren. The transition from one city to another would prove beneficial as he would assist in passing on his Greek culture to his grandchildren, which filled him with pride. Having lived through a world war, he felt it was critical to pass down the history, beliefs, and religious practises of the Greek Orthodox faith. Although he was known for his immense sense of humor and sarcasm, the belief in his convictions never waivered even if met with resistance. His most valuable lesson to pass along to his children was to protect your family and to humbly serve those in need. Family and health always came first, this was his legacy.
