Sipho Yves Cele

It is with heavy hearts to announce the passing of Sipho Cele affectionately known as “Breeps” to those closest to him, passed away on May 25, 2025 quietly in his sleep at his home in Cookstown, Ontario.

Sipho is survived by his son Mlungisi Cele and his spouse Jody Cele. He is also survived by his brothers Themba, Monde and Mfana and mother Grace Cele. He predeceased by his father Edward Cele, his sister Linidiwe Cele and brother Zanele Cele.

Sipho enjoyed travelling, BBQs, dancing/listening to music, most especially jazz music and salsa music while cooking. He enjoyed spending time with family, sitting outside on his deck or working in his greenhouse or garden. He was known by many as a fun, kind person and ready to lend a helping hand to anyone.

Sipho was a sports fan of many teams, mainly the Montreal Canadiens, the Toronto Raptors, the Los Angeles Lakers and Liverpool just to name a few. He was also a strong supporter of the Springboks, Bafana Bafana and the Proteas, the national teams from South Africa, the country of his birth. Being a sports fan wasn’t enough for Sipho, he was also a coach for the special Olympics in basketball.

He will be remembered for his warm and kind spirit, his love for his countries, and the deep love he shared with his family and friends. Sipho’s impact on those who knew him will resonate long beyond his years.

Funeral services will be held on June 3, 2025 at 2pm. The venue will be the Jennett Memorial Centre located at 152 Bradford St, Barrie, ON L4N 3B5 Canada
