Simon Walmsley
June 19, 1985 - September 15, 2023

With much love and deep sorrow, we mourn the sudden passing of Simon Milton Walmsley on September 15, 2023. Simon is survived by his mother Carla (Bit), daughter Avery Grace, sister Julia (Michael Klein), nephew Max, half brother Joel, many aunts, uncles, cousins and his beloved dog Wesley. He is predeceased by his father Christopher Milton and grandparents, Doreen and Peter Walmsley and Carmela and Egidio Bit.

Simon was born in Ottawa, and grew up in London (Ont.) and Toronto. He was a spirited, energetic and clever young boy, excelling at elementary school and earning a spot in the gifted program. He took a keen interest in sailing with his father and was a superb swimmer, going on to earn racing awards and working as a life guard for many years. After matriculating from Danforth Collegiate (2003) he went on to graduate from the Chef School at George Brown College (2005), and later went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree (Sociology) from Ryerson University (2016).

Simon always had a busy, active and very creative mind. He pursued many passions from cooking to gardening, woodworking to music and collecting backpacks to t-shirts. He adored growing and tending vegetables in his garden, cooking lobster and grilling everything, camping in Algonquin, working with his father’s tools, watching movies and playing video games. Simon had become increasingly interested in exploring and understanding more about his Italian heritage. He loved collecting and playing keyboards, guitars and other musical instruments and produced complex techno art videos from his fantastical imagination.

Simon and his partner Natasha welcomed their daughter Avery into the world in March 2023. On his death, Avery was definitely the love of Simon’s life, albeit for far too short a time. Simon will be remembered for his his deep love of family and for his creative spirit.

He will be missed dearly by all who knew him. A gathering to remember and celebrate Simon’s life will be held in 2024 (details to follow)
