It is with heavy hearts, the family of Shirley Breton (McMahon) are saddened to announce that she passed away peacefully on July 4, 2023 at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Center in Barrie, Ontario.
Shirley was the eldest of 7 children, born in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia on October 3, 1930 to father John Patrick McMahon and mother Florence Isabelle (MacDonald). She moved to Ontario as a young woman and it was here where she met the love of her life, Paul and they began their life journey together. They were married for 63 years.
Shirley was a loving and devoted wife, a wonderful mother and grandmother, a loving sister, aunt and good friend. She was an avid reader; she loved to bake sweets and do puzzles, and she treasured playing the piano. She enjoyed travel and especially loved going “down home” to Nova Scotia. When vision and hearing loss prevented her from doing what she loved, she adapted to all the changes extremely well, never complained and was determined to be both happy and independent to the end.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Joan Catherine MacDonald, her brothers Donald Patrick, William Robert, John Leo and Allan Joseph.
Shirley is survived by her beloved husband Paul, her daughters Susan Rudd (Al) and Dianne Pegg (Wes), her sister Mary McCullough, her grandchildren Phillip, Aaron and Sarah, her sisters-in law Audrey McMahon (Allan), Beverly McMahon (William) and Joyce McMahon (John) and many nieces and nephews.
In respect of Shirley’s final wishes, cremation has taken place. Those wishing to honour Shirley’s life are invited to make a donation in her memory to the Royal Victoria Regional Health Center in Barrie or the Canadian Cancer Society.
