Shawna Marie Melanson (nee Martin)

Shawna Marie Melanson, born in Halifax, NS on 14 August 1959. Shawna passed away in Ottawa, ON on 22 November 2025.

Shawna was very much loved by all who knew her. She loved to cook, quilt, read and play cards. She always seemed to have a jigsaw puzzle on the kitchen table. Shawna was the head cook at a senior’s building where she enjoyed spending time with the residents. Shawna had a way of making a connection with everyone she came into contact with. She could put a smile on the face of every customer at her busy Tim Horton’s drive thru window in Orleans. She then transferred to the Tim’s in the mall and continued taking care of her customers. Her regular customers looked forward to her smile as they started their day.

Shawna was the mother of two boys, Chris and Chad. She loved attending their hockey games: everyone knew when Shawna was in the rink.  Shawna lived a simple life filled with joys and heartache. She would be the first to admit she was not perfect but she was always unapologetically herself.

Shawna is predeceased by her son Christopher Melanson; sister Laura, granddaughter Paige and brother in law Bruce.  She is survived by her son Chad, several grandchildren, nieces and nephews, her mother Carol Martin (Collins), and her siblings. 

In keeping with Shawna’s wishes, she has been cremated and there will be a small service next summer in Digby, Nova Scotia.
