Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Sara Louise Riley on July 20th, 2026, at the age of 60. Sara will be forever remembered by family and friends as a kind, funny, and hard-working person who kicked butt everyday.

Sara had a remarkable strength which was seen and felt by everyone around her. She remained curious during her battle with cancer, and wanted her fight to make a difference for others. She always took time to ask the care team about themselves, and remained interested in all of the innovative work they were doing.

From a very early age Sara developed a love for horses and riding. She found great friendship and pleasure at the barn among the horses and the many people she got to know. Our sincere thanks to those who have helped support running the barn during this difficult period.

Sara's greatest joy was her family and friends. She was a spectacular mum, a loving partner, a steadfast sister, aunt and a caring friend. Nothing made her face light up more than spending time with family, and every gathering was an opportunity to love and spoil everyone. She never hesitated to lend a hand, and had a gift for making everyone feel welcomed and cared for. Sara demonstrated her love to everyone through her generosity, her thoughtfulness, and a knack for knowing just when everyone needed a hot cup of tea.

Her legacy is felt through the memories she gave us, the laughter we shared, and the love that we continue to feel for her. She taught us to be strong, be loving, and to always check in on one another.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, and details will be shared with family and friends.

Our thanks to all the caregivers at RVH who supported Sara. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre Palliative Care in support of their tireless work.
