Rózsa Bertók was born in Kistelek, Hungary when most of Europe was in pre-WWII turmoil. She was quiet and shy, but was always there to help with her 3 younger siblings. Studious and hard-working, she originally dreamed of being a doctor but in Post-War Hungary her options were limited. Instead she finished her degree in nursing, working in various areas of Hungary before finally becoming head nurse at a hospital in Budapest. She spoke often about this wonderful time in her life, and always said, this is where she found her voice! She was well-loved and respected by doctors, colleagues, and patients alike.
In 1968, she decided to make a brave move by emigrating by herself to Toronto, Canada where she met fellow emigre Steven Tusnadi (1919-1998). Soon after, they married and started a family. She was a dedicated wife to Steven throughout their 30 years together, and a caring, loving mother to her two children Stephen and Agnes. She always put family first, and was generous and compassionate. She regularly attended and volunteered at social events at the St. Elizabeth of Hungary Roman Catholic church. In her later years she enjoyed visits from her children, their spouses Helen (Stephen) and Adlen (Agnes) and grand children Emily and Caitlin (Stephen) and Amaya (Agnes). She had numerous friends she kept in touch with by phone - she 'loved to talk, non-stop!!'
She is and will always be lovingly remembered by her family. Rest in Peace Mami, Nagymama, Nama, Nana ❤️
