Roy Leonard McKinley

December 4, 1954 — November 7, 2025

Toronto

Roy's unexpected passing occurred at Etobicoke General Hospital from complications of pneumonia.

He is predeceased by parents William and Kathleen McKinley, and leaves behind his siblings Jamie (Daisy) and Vickie (Peter). Also his nieces Annie and Becky (Malcolm).

Missing him dearly is his wife, Vera, stepchildren Jasmin (Edward), Lauren (Michael), and David (Kristen), as well as his beloved granddaughters Avalon and Sierra.

Roy grew up in Etobicoke and attended Martin Grove Collegiate, followed by Ryerson Polytechnic.

Roy was fond of his motorcycle and was an avid fisherman, spending many hours with his friends Kristen, Dan, Mario, Tom and Brian. He was also an Avid photographer and loved reading.

Being quite knowledgeable, people often sought his advice, with the nickname of  "Dr. McKinley". His career included various jobs ending with Air Canada and Toronto Hydro. He suffered a life changing accident in 1993 which took months and years of recovery. He was luckily able to continue his employment with Toronto Hydro, at a desk position.

Meeting Vera in 2001, through "Life Mates", they were married for 23 years. Despite his limitations, they travelled extensively to Hawaii, the Caribbean, Iceland, Norway,  and many road trips in the U.S.

Camping was a major pastime, tenting with David and their beloved greyhound, Bailey. Then by motorhome to Newfoundland. They camped at 50 places over the years and many happy years were spent poolside on Widdicombe Hill, with various beloved pets, birdwatching for entertainment.

Roy was a loving and generous stepfather to Jasmine, Lauren, and David, treating them as his own and was always available to dispense good advice.

He was much beloved and leaves a huge hole in the family. He will be greatly missed.
