Roy Alfred James Carter

September 6, 1937 — October 30, 2023

With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved father, Roy, on October 30, 2023, surrounded by family at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre in Barrie. Roy was preceded in death by his loving wife, Sheila, in 2006.

A loving father to Pennie Carter (Bob) of Oro-Medonte, Brian Carter (Kelly) of Pembroke, Bonnie Carter of Stirling, and Jonathan Carter (Kim) of Windsor. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Debbie DeJong, as well as his granddaughter, Ashley, and grandson, Angel.

Roy was a proud and loving grandfather to Brandon (Julie), Braeden (Nicole), Royce (Shelby), Zachariah (Deborah), Desiree (Kayla), Kayla (Alex), Daunte, and great-grandfather to eight great-grandchildren.

In addition to his immediate family, Roy will be warmly remembered by numerous nephews, nieces, extended family members, friends, and neighbours.

Throughout his life, Roy served as a dedicated letter carrier for Canada Post for 35 years. He had a passion for travel and an active role in his community, notably through his longstanding commitment to the Barrie Legion. His tireless efforts in fundraising and the distribution of poppies left a lasting mark on lives of those he touched.

In accordance with Roy's wishes, there will be a private family interment at Barrie Union Cemetery following cremation. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial donations to the Multiple Sclerosis Society or the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre Cancer Care Centre. Roy's legacy of love and service will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
