On July 12th, 2025 Roy passed away peacefully, with his family by his side at the Mariposa House Hospice in Orillia at the age 65.
Roy Karl Baskiewicz born January 30th 1960 in Barrie, Ontario to Karl and Kathy Baskiewicz. Brother to Martusha (Jim) Doyle and Uncle to James (Emily) Doyle, Kate (Shane) Porter, and Robyn Doyle. Great Uncle to Lyla Oakley, Evelyn and Luna.
Ever so proud father of his children Roy Raymond Karl Bakiewicz (Celeste) and Lyndsy Katherine Baskiewicz who he loved dearly. He took great pride in providing for his family through hard work and the loving support he received from family and friends.
Growing up in Barrie, with hardworking parents who immigrated from Poland, Roy was always proud to tell you he was born and raised in the city of Barrie. Often talked about growing up in the American Hotel as a young boy, Roy learned the value of hard work.
He became a drywaller and plaster by trade for over 40 years where he spent much of his time self employed and mastered his craft. Roy was also very skilled in other trades which he always took great pride in his workmanship and ability to get things done. Later in life, Roy took the role of building maintenance for the Georgian Green Student Residence where he spent many years fixing and preparing dorm rooms for students attending Georgian College. Eventually Roy spent a few years at Central North Correctional Center in the maintenance department before he retired.
During his younger years, Roy was an outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting and his annual moose hunts with the gang which he often shared fond memories of.
A life long member of the Polish Alliance of Canada, Barrie-Angus, the Polish Hall became a place where he would be a part of many important events for family and the Polish community.
Roy was also a proud Masonic brother with Kerr Lodge 203 in Barrie. He became a Shriner with the Sheba Shrine Club in Barrie and was often involved in many charitable events and a large advocate for the Shriners Children's Hospital. He was a regular at the Shrine lunch where he would often enjoy an afternoon of laughs and stories with his fellow brethren.
A special thank you to the Mariposa House Hospice in Orillia and all their staff who were incredible during an extremely difficult time with all their care and compassion.
Roy will be sadly missed by all friends and family who knew him.
A Celebration of life will take place on Saturday July 26th,2025 at the Polish Alliance Hall, 4728 County Road 90,Barrie ON. A Masonic Service beginning at 11am with the Celebration of life to follow. There will be time to share memories until 3pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be donated to Mariposa House Hospice or Shriners Children's Hospital.
