Ottawa

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Rosy Salvador Fernandes, who passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at the age of 70. Known to her loved ones as Ruzai, she passed away at 2:15 am at the Ottawa General Hospital, Palliative Care Unit, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Rosy was born on May 3, 1955, in Honavar, India, to the late Monthi and Salvador Fernandes. She was one of nine children and will be deeply missed by her siblings Fulla and Christine and is reunited in heaven with her late siblings Fr. Peter, Josephine, Santan, Mary, Fatima, and Crijostom.

A truly devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Rosy is survived by her loving husband Patrono Rodrigues with whom she shared 51 years and celebrated 40 years of marriage. She was a constant source of love and support for her son Remy Rodrigues and his wife Shaliny, and her daughter Rema Fernandes and her husband Godwin. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren, Rohan, Rhea, and Riana Rodrigues, for whom she would do anything. Rosy's boundless love and dedication to her family were a testament to her beautiful spirit.

A woman of deep faith, Rosy served the Lord with a generous spirit. As a parishioner of St. Mary's Church in Ottawa, she dedicated her time and talents as a sacristan, Eucharist Minister, and usher. She found solace and strength in daily mass, quiet prayer at the Adoration Chapel and through her involvement in various church retreats and events hosted by the Companions of the Cross. She will be fondly remembered for her gifts of cooking and gardening.

A service to honor Rosy’s life will be held on Friday, October 17, 2025, at St. Mary's Church, located at 100 Young Street, Ottawa, Ontario. Visitation will take place at the church from 10:45 a.m. to 11:15 a.m., followed by the funeral mass at 11:30 a.m. Following the mass, a reception will be held for family and friends in the church hall. The burial will take place after the reception at Notre Dame Cemetery, 455 Montreal Road, Ottawa, Ontario. All are welcome to attend.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Ottawa General Hospital - Cancer Centre, which supported Rosy throughout her journey.
