Ronald Joseph Hughes

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Ronald Hughes, a beloved husband, father, brother, grandpa, uncle, and friend. Ron passed away on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at the age of 71, at home, surrounded by his family. Throughout his battle with cancer, he maintained his endearing stubbornness and unique sense of humor.

Born on June 19, 1952, in Ottawa, Ontario, Ron was the eldest of five children born to the late Gordon and Simone Hughes. He was preceded in death by his sister Margaret Anne and brothers Gordon “Junior” and Christopher.

Ronald is survived by his devoted wife of fifty years, Chantal Desjardins, and their cherished children, “the twins” Daniel (Roberta) and Renée (Ken). He was a proud grandpa to Joshua, Isaac, Jessica, and Meghan, and a dedicated family man who cared deeply for his loved ones.

He is also survived by his sister, Glynice Lafleur (née Hughes), who loved him dearly, along with her husband Daniel and their children, Rémi (Anne-Marie) and Shawn (Christine). Additionally, Ron leaves behind his nieces Amanda and Krista, nephews Thomas, Matty, and Billy and great nieces and nephews.

Those who knew Ron will remember him as a joyful, kind, and generous soul. He was always ready with a laugh, a helping hand, and a listening ear.

Ronald and Chantal cherished their time at Pinewood Park, spending countless happy moments at their trailer with many friends. Ron could often be found fishing on the lake or enjoying NASCAR races on television, a passion that began in his youth during his drag racing days.

A dedicated and hardworking auto mechanic, Ron practiced his craft at the same shop since his teenage years, forming a close-knit community with his coworkers, who will miss him dearly.

We will celebrate Ronald's life on Saturday, June 29, 2024, from 11 am to 2 pm at the Royal Canadian Legion (800 Taylor Creek Drive, Orleans, Ontario). Please join us to share fond memories of a life well-lived. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated.
