Robert John McKay, June 27, 1946 – February 13, 2026. Rob passed away peacefully during a short stay at Michael Garron Hospital. Rob was a devoted and loving father to Melissa and son-in-law, Erik and a cherished Papa to Marika and Elise, whom he adored. Rob is survived by his brothers, Don (Marlene); Ian (Rob); and sister, Kitty as well as his niece, Sally; and nephews, Joe, David, Gary and Jim; and former wife, Carole and other family and friends. Predeceased by his mother, Margaret McKay (Fleming); and father, John McKay; and niece, Naomi. Born in Cornwall, Ontario, Rob attended Central Michigan University as an English major, and the University of Toronto Masters of Social Work program. Rob was a professional social worker at the Toronto District School Board dedicated to helping kids for over 30 years. Rob was an enthusiastic reader, humbly knowledgeable and loved BBQ meals with family. He enjoyed watching his granddaughters play sports and working on various projects together. He loved spending time at the family cottage in Leith, playing tennis, having fires on the shore and watching sunsets. Rob also liked going to the family woodlot in Glengarry County where he enjoyed conversations on the screened porch. Rob was an insightful, dependable and considerate person with a quiet but playful sense of humour who will be deeply missed by many.
A small private cremation has taken place. A celebration of life for Rob will be planned at the end of April for family and friends. Please contact melissamckay416@gmail.com for further details about the celebration.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Covenant House Toronto.
