Robert Wayne Long was born on January 9, 1940 in Oakville, Ontario and died peacefully in his sleep on May 9, 2025 at the age of 85 at the Castleview Wychwood Long Term Care Home.
Wayne Long was the son of William George Evans Long and Elizabeth Maye Dickson. Born in Oakville, Ontario, he was the embodiment of courage, strength, kindness, generosity and unwavering love.
Robert Wayne Long was a cherished husband, father, grandfather and friend.
He is survived by his spouse Johanna Dorothy Long, daughter Allison Bernadette Long, son-in-law Micha Pichlkastner, daughter Rosemary Ruth Morgan, daughter Lydia Marguerite (Maggie) Sagadore, son-in-law Glenn Sagadore, son Michael Francisco Long, step-son Ernie Tollar, daughter-in-law Maryem Tollar, step-daughter Yvette Tollar, son-in-law Andre John as well as his grandchildren Omneya, Joska, and Janos Tollar, Eden, Jahqaria, and Jahquan John, Lief Elias Long, Matthew James and Sean Sagadore, Grace and Paul Morgan.
Wayne Long graduated from the Ontario College of Art (OCA), became a Potter and then became a dedicated teacher at Central Technical School and Newtonbrook Secondary School in Toronto, Ontario.
After retiring from teaching, he continued as a talented artist and enjoyed tending his farm in Nipissing, sketching, photography, painting and volunteering.
Wayne and his wife Johanna were commended for their contributions to the Canadian Mental Health Association in the North Bay Parry Sound region with an Award for Excellence for the many volunteer hours advocating, campaigning and organizing to create better rights and freedoms for people living with mood disorders.
With the support of Johanna, he had the opportunity to voice his experience in Parliament, and contributed to the development of centres like Gerstein Crisis Centre in Toronto and Drop-In Centres across the Near North.
He missed his community and friends in Powassan after his move to Castleview Wychwood in Toronto in 2022. Despite his struggle living with Bipolar Disorder and several bouts of cancer, his spirit of generosity, wry humour and a genuine love of people had an impact on the lives of those who knew him.
His private cremation will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2025 and his family will have a Celebration of Life at a later date.
The family requests any donations be made to the Canadian Mental Health Association.
