Rivka “Rebecca” Kardos (formerly Cohen) of Ottawa, ON, passed away on Friday, September 11, 2026, at the age of 85 years.

Rivka is survived by her children, Haim, Moshe and Nicki, and her grandchildren, Jesse, Aaron and Leora. She is also survived by her younger brother, Nissim. She was predeceased by her parents, Moshe and Ester and her older brother David.

Rivka was born in Bulgaria on December 2, 1940 and later moved to Israel with her parents and brother David around 1949. She married in 1959 and quickly started a family before moving to Canada for a better life in early 1968. She lived in various small towns in Quebec (Bristol, Shawville and Ladysmith) with her young family and even ran a general store. Then, in 1976, she relocated to Ottawa, ON and landed a job at Marks & Spencer on Sparks Street. After living a few years in Calgary, AB in the early 1980s, Rivka returned to Ottawa and made it her permanent home.

Rivka loved gardening, watching movies and making home cooked meals. She enjoyed making big batches of Hungarian goulash for her friends and neighbours. She will be missed.
