It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Rita Proulx Currans.
Rita leaves behind her loving daughters, Kim (Chi) and Stephanie, her cherished grandchildren, Olivia and Christopher, and her sister, Claudette McConville (Tom). She is now reunited with her beloved husband, Stan Currans, as well as her parents, René and Aurore Proulx, and her brother, Rudy.
Rita was a proud mother and grandmother and will be remembered for her independent and adventurous spirit. A true trailblazer, she built a career in the early days of information technology, working with IBM punch card systems at a time when few women pursued such paths. During her career life she moved to Hydro Canada and retired from Canadian Intellectual Property Office. She travelled abroad in the 1950s, embracing the world with curiosity and courage, and lived her life fully and unapologetically on her own terms. During retirement, both she and Stan, enjoyed wintering at Sun City in Tampa, FL.
She found great joy in watching her daughters and grandchildren grow, always proud to see them carve out their own paths and embrace their independence, just as she had.
Rita will be fondly remembered for her vibrant energy, her strength, living her life to the fullest and her wonderful sense of fun.
Our family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the PSW staff at Viva Barrhaven, Dr. MacDonald, and the team at Southbridge Ottawa Long-Term Care for their care, kindness, and support.
Mom and Grandma, you will always be loved, cherished, and remembered. We will carry you with us in our hearts forever.
