He loved to travel and this enabled him to visit many interesting parts of Canada.

During his employment and following his retirement in 1996 Richard enjoyed international travel. He looked forward to his annual winter vacation in Mexico and during winters in Ottawa kept active skiing and curling. Richard took art lessons in retirement which he enjoyed very much and he created many watercolours and oil paintings. In summer, as a member of the Highlands Golf Course, he kept active golfing and participating in club activities. Richard learned to play the accordion in his youth and continued to play for enjoyment until he was 89.

Richard moved to Villagia in the Glebe Residence in 2019 and lived independently until 2026. He was happy there so the family is appreciative of the staff at Villagia in making his stay a positive experience. In early 2026 Richard was a patient at the Ottawa Heart Institute whose staff did  everything possible to improve Richard’s health. The last 4 months of his life were spent at Robertson House where he was able to receive the extra care and comfort he needed. The efforts of the staff at Robertson House is much appreciated.
