It is with great sadness to announce the passing of René Clément Godbout.
He died peacefully at La Maison de L’Est Ottawa Hospice at age 79, surrounded by loved ones, on September 28th 2025.
René is predeceased by his parents, Antonio Godbout and Doris Goulet, as well as by his beloved spouse, Lucette Beaulieu.
He leaves behind and will be forever remembered by his children: Monique, Nicole, Kim (Yannick Vinette), Chantalle (Ken Delisle), Danielle, and Rémis (Katrina Rytter); his grandchildren: Erykah, Shandice, Robert, Amanda, Jeremy, Meagan, Jamie, Mathieu, Isabelle, and Cole; and his great-grandchildren: Charlotte, Rory, Benjermin, Myriam, Ruby Doo, Roman, Marilyn, Lincoln, and Evelyn.
René was the seventh of thirteen children. He is reunited with those who predeceased him—Étienne, Julien, Gaston, Lilianne, and Arthur—and will be fondly remembered by his surviving siblings Clément, Paul, Madeleine, Léo, Carolle, Hervé, and Sylvie.
René had a love for the outdoors. He was a great fisherman and in his younger years hunted. As a child he wanted to pilot a plane. He made his dream come true; he got his pilot license and bought himself a plane. He accomplished a lot in his work life. He worked as an underground driller, a mine captain for 17 years and a salesman for his brother's business. He returned to school in his 50’s and began a new chapter as a draftsman/salesman and traveled across Canada and the USA. After he retired from his many careers, he became a Superintendent in the Sudbury area until the age of 77. Throughout his life René loved spending time with his family, especially trying to not miss any family gatherings. He was a lifelong Montreal Canadians fan. He will be forever missed.
