Petros Bekiaris

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Petros Bekiaris. He passed away peacefully in the late evening on May 13, 2024, surrounded by his family and loved ones.

He was recently predeceased by his oldest brother, Konstantinos. He will forever be loved, missed and remembered by his wife Fotini; his children George (Georgia), Spyros (Lambrini); and his grandchildren Faith, Christina, Petros, Grigorios and Konstantinos.

Petros was born and raised in Goura, Corinthia Greece. He emigrated to Canada in March 1966, to join his brother Spyros and his family and to set down roots and begin a family of his own. In 1979, he married Fotini Kapellos in their home village of Goura. Together, through hard work, sacrifice and dedication, fulfilled their dream of raising a beautiful family, including five grandchildren.

Petros was fiercely proud of both his native country of Greece and his adopted country of Canada. He was known for his disciplined work ethic and unparalleled integrity. He followed the path many Greek immigrants in Canada take and worked in the restaurant industry for decades. In the early 1990’s he opened his own store in south Etobicoke, where he became a beloved figure in the community. With the help of his family and his best friend Gregory Barlas, his store became a Mimico Etobicoke staple for over 25 years.

Petros will always be remembered as the quintessential family man and the embodiment of the Canadian dream. Aside from his family, his love for his boyhood team, Olympiacos, was unparalleled; he now rests, proudly watching over both.
