Peter was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, the youngest son of Thomas and Ethel Crossley (née Mann). He passed away, aged 80 years, after a period of declining health, in Michael Garron Hospital, Toronto, Ontario. He was pre-deceased by his father in 1950, his mother in 1976, his sister Joan (Gauthier) in 1977, and his brother Robert in 2009.
Peter had a lifelong passion for all forms of theatre, music, art and dance. He worked for many years as a feature writer and theatre critic for the Arts and Entertainment section of the Winnipeg Free Press, and later as a freelance travel writer for Condé Nast publications. Settling in Toronto in the 1980s, he chose an early retirement and a new community connection there. He enjoyed cooking and fine dining, and continued to follow theatre, ballet and opera performances across the world via YouTube and Facebook. He also enjoyed the companionship of 2 beloved rescue cats.
Although he had a volatile relationship with friends and family members, with periods of alienation and reconciliation over the years, he is fondly remembered for his early connections with his niece, Kim Crossley of Stratford, ON and his nephew, Gordon Crossley of Winnipeg, MB, who knew him always as "Uncle Duffy" or "Duff". May he rest in peace.
