Growing up, my dad always taught me a life lesson that had a soundtrack to go along with it. He always told me to be a “simple man”. As I got older, that seemed to be a staple in our lives. My father didn't care much to have the flashy stuff in life. A cool car, or a big house to him wasn't how you measured life, it was about the people around you and your ability to be able to sit with who you are. As long as his family had a smile on their faces and a roof over their heads he was happy. My dad was a very simple man, love fuelled everything he did, whether it be working a job for a person he’d never met or making sure the people he thought were important never forget that. He walked into any room with his heart on his sleeve and his head held high. He found peace in nature, never wearing shoes in the grass or sitting in a chair he would look up from his crossed legs and say something to me, mom or my sister that we couldn't help but laugh at with a smile that almost burnt a hole in your heart - his big blue eyes reflecting the sun. When I think of who my dad was and how he would like to be remembered, that's the image that comes to mind: a fun loving compassionate super hero that would do anything to put a smile on your face. To me that is Peter Chmiel, our dad.
