Patricia Anne Swarts, 82, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2026, in Ottawa in the presence of family. She faced a brave, uphill battle with pulmonary fibrosis, meeting every challenge with the same dignity, courage, and grace that defined her entire life.
Patricia was a woman of infectious optimism and a cheerful spirit. Known for being fiercely loyal and incredibly funny, she was the ultimate supportive presence for those she loved. Whether she was cheering for her family or her favorite teams, you could always count on her honesty and her bright, supportive energy.
Patricia was a woman who brought immense joy, laughter, and love to everyone she touched. She was a dedicated wife to her Bobby, the matriarch of the Madore clan, a dear sister, sister-in-law, and a friend to many.
36 years ago, on her 47th birthday, Patricia experienced the profound joy of reconnecting with her birth son, Normand Charette. This reunion was a turning point that brought a sense of wholeness and peace she cherished for nearly four decades. She took immense pride in the family Normand built with his wife, Lori, and she lived for her role as "Gramma" to Camille and Olivier. She affectionately called them her "little family," and they were the light of her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband Robert (Bobby) Swarts, her parents, Vincent and Marion Madore, her brother, Danny Madore, and her brothers-in-law Ben Hollup and Melvin Stewart. She is survived by her son, Normand Charette, and his wife Lori; her cherished grandchildren, Camille and Olivier, her sisters, Corrine Weisbrod (Brett), , Karen “Sparkles” Hollup, Curtis (Mary Louise) Madore, Barry (Lada) Madore, Debbie (Bart Haskett) Mask, and Donna Stewart, brothers Lloyd (Kathy) Madore, Randy (Moira) Madore, and Blaine (Wendy) Madore, sister-in-law Carol Ann Madore, special friend Salvatore “Sam” Giamontie, a host of nieces and nephews, and a vast circle of friends.
A celebration of Patricia’s life will be held at the family cottage in July in Mont Tremblant, Quebec. In honor of her memory, donations can be made to SOS – Steps Off the Street, an Ottawa based charity that empowers individuals experiencing homelessness to transition from the streets into addiction recovery. Life is like a book. Some chapters are sad, some are happy, and some very exciting.
If you never turn the page, you will never know what the next chapter holds.
