Olive Anderson, beloved mother, grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully on June 20, 2025, at Cornwall Hospice, where her final days were spent surrounded by compassionate care. Born to Frederick and Fay Bonnett in London, England, on August 19, 1942, during the tumultuous years of World War II, Olive's early life unfolded against the backdrop of a city rebuilding itself. This experience shaped her resilience and nurturing spirit, marking the beginning of a life dedicated to caring for others.
Upon completing her education, Olive pursued a career in nursing, starting her journey at the Falmouth & District Hospital in Cornwall. At the tender age of 16, she met Bryan Anderson, the love who would shape her world. Their union in marriage two years later saw Olive embracing the adventure of being a Navy wife, during which time their family grew with the birth of their daughter Jane and son Simon. When Bryan's military service concluded, they returned to London to transition into civilian life, where Olive passionately devoted herself to raising her children. Even as she took jobs that aligned with her children’s school schedules, her heart was always rooted in her family, creating a warm and loving home.
As her children became more independent, Olive returned to work full time at the Post Office, where she not only found fulfillment but also created lasting friendships. Following her retirement, Olive and Bryan made the momentous decision to move to Canada to be closer to their daughter and grandchildren, embracing this new chapter with gusto. Together, they discovered new passions such as making wine and traveling across the stunning landscapes of the Maritimes, Quebec, and Ontario. Their travels back to England allowed Olive to maintain ties to her roots and to the cherished family and friends left behind.
The passing of her beloved husband Bryan marked a profound change in Olive's life. Known to many as two halves of one person, Olive faced the future with courage as she navigated a life without him. Her determination to find purpose again led her to Hospice Cornwall, where she found solace and joy through weekly group events, crafting, and the cherished company of new friends. Olive's creative spirit shone brightly in her craft projects, which she lovingly gifted to her great-grandchildren, who adored them. She experienced contentment through the friendships she nurtured, the music of her favorite songs, and the comfort of Aggie's soups.
Olive approached her final journey at Hospice with grace and gratitude, departing to the soothing melodies of Don Williams' "You're My Best Friend," reuniting with Bryan, the love of her life. She leaves behind a legacy of love and strength, remembered fondly by her daughter Jane Sears (John) and son Simon Anderson (Sally). Olive is survived by her cherished grandchildren: Jennifer Evans, Daniel Evans (NaRae), Michael Evans, Christopher Anderson (Zsophia), and James Sears, as well as many great-grandchildren who were the apple of her eye. She is also survived by her brother Eric Bonnett (Kath) and a host of nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
In bidding farewell to Olive, we celebrate a life that was rich with love, nurturing, and cherished memories, leaving a lasting imprint on all who knew her. Her family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Poilly, Nurse Brenda, and PSW Shelly, whose unwavering support provided comfort during her final days. The compassionate team at Hospice Cornwall played an instrumental role in making Olive's journey as bearable as possible, a kindness her family will always remember. A private family celebration of life will pay tribute to Olive's remarkable spirit and the love she poured into her family and friendships.
