Norman (Norm) Craig Cameron

December 21, 1961 – July 18, 2026

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Norman (Norm) Cameron on July 18, 2026, at the age of 64, at the Toronto General Hospital.

Norm spent his early years in Ottawa and later lived in Pembroke before returning to Ottawa.

In 2012, Norm met Glenda Barrington, who would become the love of his life. Together they built a life centred on love, laughter, and the simple pleasures that meant the most to them. Their happiest moments were often the quiet ones they shared together, while also cherishing time spent with family and friends. 

Norm retired from the federal government in 2017 and embraced the opportunity to live life in a way that made him happy. In 2019, he and Glenda began a new chapter together when they made their home in Almonte where they remained for the rest of Norm's life.

Golfing, hunting, fishing, camping, curling, cycling, walking in nature, travelling to warmer destinations, reading, following financial markets, listening to his favourite music, and the occasional glass of red wine were among the things he enjoyed most. 

Those who knew Norm will remember his quick wit, sense of humour, laid-back nature, and honest, straightforward personality. He spoke his mind, lived authentically, and believed that life's greatest joys were found in the people he loved, quiet moments to himself, and time spent doing the things he enjoyed most. 

In the final months of his life, Norm faced significant health challenges with remarkable courage and determination. Even during the most difficult days, he remained hopeful, looked to the future with optimism, and never lost sight of the life he loved. Surrounded by the unwavering support of Glenda, his family, and his friends, he faced each challenge with quiet strength and dignity. His resilience, perseverance, and positive spirit left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of walking beside him on that journey.

Norm is survived by the love of his life, his life partner, Glenda Barrington. 

He is lovingly remembered by his siblings: Stephen Cameron; David (Ann) Cameron; Sandra (David) Bellringer; Michelle (Mario) Cameron; and Scott (Fin) Cameron. 

He will be deeply missed by his sister-in-law, Holly Barrington-Squires, and brother-in-law, Dion Squires, who loved him as a brother. 

He is also lovingly remembered by his nieces and nephews: Rachel (Charles), Lauren (Shane), Kelsey (Chris), Kilian, Sarah, Gabrielle, Elle, and Nicholas. 

He also leaves behind his great-nieces and great-nephew: Tessa, Elle, Lewis, and Violet.

He will also be deeply missed by his aunt Iris Biggs and his many cousins, who held a special place in his heart. 

Norm was predeceased by his mother, Doris Cameron; his father, Douglas Cameron; and his brother, Neil Cameron.

A Personal Tribute from Glenda 

Norm had a way of reminding me—and everyone around him—to focus on what truly mattered. His favourite advice was, "Don't sweat the small stuff," and he lived by those words. With his quick wit, sense of humour, pragmatic outlook, and steady presence, he had a way of keeping me grounded. Even when I became overwhelmed, he could lighten the moment with a smile or a witty remark, reminding me that not everything needed to weigh so heavily. 

Even during the most difficult months of his illness, Norm's greatest concern was never for himself—it was for me. He saw how deeply his illness affected me and worried far more about my well-being, than he ever did about himself. That selfless love, quiet strength, and unwavering devotion were simply who Norm was. 

Norm was my best friend, my rock, and the love of my life. Together, we found happiness in life’s simple pleasures. We helped each other grow into the people we became, and I will always be grateful for the life we shared. Even during the hardest days, he helped me find the strength to be the person he needed me to be, and for that I will be forever grateful. 

Though his absence leaves an immeasurable void, the love we shared, the memories we created, and the essence of who he was will remain with me always. 

Norm's greatest legacy was not found in what he owned or accomplished, but in the way he lived. He will be remembered for the kindness he showed, the laughter he brought to others, the lives he touched, and the example he set of finding joy in what mattered most

Celebration of Life

A celebration of Norm's life will be held at a later date, when family and friends can gather to honour and remember him. Details will be shared once arrangements have been made.

In honour of Norm's memory, donations may be made to a charity dedicated to supporting individuals and families affected by pulmonary fibrosis; helping to provide hope, care, and assistance to those facing the challenges of this disease.
