It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Michael Murphy on September 13, 2026, at the age of 75. He was the beloved husband of Patricia (née Gribbon) and the son of the late Joseph Murphy and the late Stella (Carroll). He is survived by his sons, Robert (Anne Lemay) and Nicholas (Lucile Merel), and his grandchildren, Juliette, Hugo, Xavier and Amelia. He is also survived by his brothers and sister: John (the late Jane), Daniel (the late Suzanne), Susan (John), Brian (Laura), and Joseph (the late Janice), as well as several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces and friends. He was predeceased by his brother David.

The family wishes to thank the team from Bytown Palliative Medicine for their excellent care and compassion, as well as everyone who prayed for Michael and offered their comforting friendship and help.

On Saturday, September 26, 2026, the family will receive condolences from relatives and friends beginning at 9:00 a.m. at Saint-Louis-Marie-de-Montfort Parish, located at 749 Trojan Avenue in Ottawa. The funeral will follow at 10:00 a.m., as will the interment of the ashes at the nearby Notre-Dame Cemetery in Ottawa.

C’est avec une profonde tristesse que nous vous annonçons le décès de Michael Murphy, survenu le 13 septembre 2026, à l’âge de 75 ans. Il était l’époux bien-aimé de Patricia (née Gribbon), le fils de feu Joseph Murphy et de feu Stella (Carroll). Il laisse dans le deuil ses fils Robert (Anne Lemay) et Nicholas (Lucile Merel), ses petits-enfants Juliette, Hugo, Xavier et Amelia. La famille désire remercier l’équipe de Médecine palliative Bytown pour leurs excellents soins et leur compassion, ainsi que tous ceux et celles qui ont prié pour Michael et qui ont manifesté leur amitié réconfortante et leur aide.

Le samedi 26 septembre 2026, la famille recevra les condoléances des parents et amis à compter de 9 h à la paroisse Saint-Louis-Marie-de-Montfort, située au 749, avenue Trojan, à Ottawa. Les funérailles suivront à 10 h, puis les cendres seront inhumées au cimetière Notre-Dame d’Ottawa, situé à proximité.
