Mary Tharakan from Ottawa, Ontario passed away peacefully in hospital on May 31, 2026 at the age of 76 surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on February 23, 1950 in Nairobi, Kenya, she was the second daughter of Elizabeth Mathew and the late Philip Kamicheril.

After coming to Canada in 1974, she studied computer programming at McGill University and made a career of it.

Mary was a loving mother to her 3 children. Mary loved sports and was a state level basketball player and track athlete in India growing up. She passed this passion to her family and she took joy in playing, coaching and watching.

She will be remembered for her strength and warm demeanour.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Abraham Tharakan and sister Sally Thomas.

She is survived by her children, Hormis (Tammy), Annila and Philip; her grandchildren, Mikhail, Laith and Avira; her siblings Valsa and Grace and cousins, nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be held on June 10, 2026 at 10am at Holy Cross Parish located at 685 Walkley Rd.
