Marvin "Marv" Darcy Zaluski

February 28, 1973 — December 16, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Marvin “Marv” Zaluski on December 16, 2025, in Ottawa, Ontario.

Marvin is survived by his wife Marlene, son Andrew, parents Anne and Sylvester Zaluski, brother Jamie (Lorry), nephew Charles, niece Zoey, sister Lorrianne Pearce (Derek), nieces Annika and Lydia, father-in-law Art Smith, mother-in-law Peggy Smith, sister in-law Sandra Smith (Todd) and niece Makayla.

Marvin was a truly kind and genuine soul. He had a quiet humour and a way of being himself that immediately put people at ease. His little quirks, his warmth, and his sense of humour made time spent with him feel easy and special. What stood out most was how real he was. His kindness was never put on or for show, it was simply who he was. Every moment spent with him was treasured by family and friends, and no matter how long it had been, reconnecting with him always felt like picking up right where they left off.

He spoke often and so proudly about Andrew. It was clear how deeply he admired the person Andrew had become and how much joy and pride he took in being his father. He shared stories about Andrew with such warmth, and his love for his son always came through. He also spoke lovingly about Marlene, and how lucky he felt to have her as his wife for 25 years (together for 31 years). He shared an especially close bond with his parents, spending countless hours on the phone laughing, talking, and staying connected no matter the distance.

He was deeply passionate about his work at the National Research Council where he started as a student in 1994.

He enjoyed watching and playing sports, especially hockey, snowboarding and cycling. He had a remarkable thirst for knowledge that fed his fearsome intellect, and combined with his gentle and loving nature, made him a man of quiet brilliance.

A celebration of his life will take place in Ottawa on a date to be determined. A funeral service will take place in Wynyard, Saskatchewan at a later date.
