Obituary

MARLENE McINTYRE (BEST KNOWN AS MICKI)

It is with agonizing sorrow that we announce the unexpected demise of Marlene McIntyre (Micki) of Barrie, Ontario.

She took her last laboured breath in the company of her closest extended family member Sharon Clegg-Lintner, whom she fondly referred to as her sister. Micki would have been 80 years young at the end of March.

Micki and Sharon had the last 56 years of unforgettable adventures, that touched so many lives and friendships.

Micki was given a new life of total independence from institutional existence in her late twenties when Sharon advocated for her freedom into the community. Eventually she established a long and endearing companionship with Robert Eaton that lasted for over forty-five years, and obviously we all saw “who wore the pants in the twosome!”. Micki endured and conquered medical setbacks throughout her last ten years when she had to make life changing decisions regarding a double leg amputation, heart attack, and lung cancer. Micki made a lasting impression on everyone from babies to seniors, and all the community supports that came into her life and were lucky and privileged enough to gain her trust and love her and fall for her charm. She had such a huge and kind heart towards animals and people who were experiencing difficulty in their lives. She would do whatever she could financially or otherwise to help anyone. Her sense of humour was beyond everyone’s enjoyment and entertainment, and sometimes shockingly so!

She leaves behind her extended family members, Sharon (Brent & Brayden), Stephen and Josephine (Ryan & Adam), Pamela and Gregory (Graeme, Kieran & Quinn), Sue Van Ek, Therese Miller, Lorie Lee Compton (Adult Protective Service Worker), and all previous APSW’S from her past, Donna Greenham, her cherished friend and her family, all personal support workers Bayshore who provided homecare, Kayla Kelly, her special friend and neighbour, and all agency and community contacts who had been and were involved with Micki’s life.

Funeral to be held on Tuesday March 10, 2026 at Jennett Memorial Chapel, 152 Bradford Street, Barrie. Viewing will be from 2-3pm. Celebration of Life from 3-4pm with reception to follow. Officiant will be Susan Eagle. Interment will be at a later date in the spring.
