Mark passed away suddenly at the Grace Manor on Sunday, September 21 from complications due to epilepsy. Mark had been a resident at the Grace Manor for over 5 years, during the lengthy lock downs and limitations imposed during the Covid crises. While he complained about his situation, he was well cared for by the excellent staff at Grace Manor, where he was kept safe during the global pandemic. Our thanks extend to the Salvation Army for their patience (especially Anita) and care during Mark’s five-year residency.
Mark was predeceased by his father, John Glen Stanley. He is survived by his mother, Germaine Stanley (96), and sisters, Louise Goulet, Michele Charrier and Patrice Stanley.
Although Mark struggled with several health issues, in recent times he looked forward to new adventures outside of the home with his friends Sara, Lindsay and Dan. Mark especially loved animals, classical music, science, Canadian history, and astronomy. He never forgot to remind us about renewing the National Geographic Magazine he so enjoyed receiving all year. Mark has a passion for coffee, computer gadgets, and birds. Mark’s intellectual challenges hardly slowed him down. He enjoyed discussing politics, sports and whatever else he found trending on the news that day. He was curious about the world around him, often sharing his views with a blunt expression of facts combined with a quick-witted sense of humour.
A memorial service will be held for Mark Stanley at the Salvation Army Grace Manor, 1156 Wellington West, Ottawa at a later date.
