It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Mark Campbell, who left us peacefully on September 6, 2026. Born in St. Catharines on June 22, 1949, Mark was the son of the late Harold and Marian (Russell) Campbell. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Eleanor Campbell (Pierrynowski), in 2008.

Mark was the brother of Donald (Barbara Talbot) and Craig (Janice Oakley).

He was the cherished father of Amy Wilcox (Richard McCoy), Belinda (Willie Hosey), Sheri, Jennifer, Jessica (Jeffrey), and Mark (Elisabeth), and proud grandfather of Amanda Wilcox, Joshua Parisi, Emma and Natalie Hosey, and Kaitlin and Jack Moscrop.

Music was one of the great loves of Mark’s life. A gifted musician, extraordinary guitar player, and wonderful singer, he had a lifelong passion for music and a particular love for The Beatles. He was also a passionate collector of guitars and firmly believed there was always room for just one more. Each instrument had its own story and held a special place in his world.

Mark was a member of The Kidds, 18th Century Drawing Room, The Movement, Oak Bluff and more. His love of music took him across Canada, travelling and performing from Ontario to Alberta. He later became a member of Iron Horse alongside his brother Craig and friend Mark Pendergast. Over the years, Mark played countless gigs, including many memorable nights at the Maple Leaf Tavern and Ivan’s Bar. He wrote and recorded an album (Twenty Feet Away) in 2012. Music was more than a hobby for Mark—it was a part of who he was.

Mark was also an exceptionally talented carpenter. He possessed that rare combination of patience, creativity, and skill that allowed him to build beautiful things with his own hands. Just as importantly, he was always willing to share what he knew with anyone who asked.

Those who knew Mark will also remember him as a master storyteller and an even better joke teller. He had a legendary ability to tell the exact same joke over and over again—and somehow, we fell for it every single time. His sharp sense of humour, captivating stories, and effortless ability to fill a room with laughter will be deeply missed.

Mark had a rare gift for making people feel comfortable around him, as though they had known him forever. Whether through a song, a story, a joke, or simply a conversation, he had a way of leaving an impression.

Mark will be deeply missed by his family and his many friends, but there will always be songs, stories, laughter, and more than a few guitars to remind us of him.

So, in honour of Mark, the next time you hear a great song, raise a glass, turn it up a little louder, and remember him.

In keeping with Mark’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
