It is with deep sorrow and full hearts that we announce the passing of Marion Eileen Johnston on May 29, 2026, at the age of 93.
Marion is survived by her adoring husband Bud (Lorne) of 69 years; her brother Tracy (Diana); her beloved children Lori (René), Trevor (Kathy), Greg (Karen), and Brian (Deah); her cherished grandchildren Ben (Katrina), Jon (Katherine), Jesse, Carly (Jesse), Larissa (Ben), Amelia (Lorne), Matthew (Antonietta), Kyle (Victoria), Aven, Will, and Thomas; and her great-grandchildren Ruth-Ada, Nora, Ivy, Addie, and Joni.
Growing up in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Marion attended teachers’ college before embarking on a fulfilling teaching career in the Soo and Ottawa. She took an extended break from teaching to focus her time and attention on raising four children, then returned as a substitute teacher.
In her rare spare time (and it was rare), Marion could be found playing bridge with friends, stealing a swim, or settling into a quiet moment to watch the sunset from the Blessing Rock on the shore of Christie Lake.
Marion and Bud cherished their years living in Blackburn Hamlet, Morrisburg and Orleans, where they were fortunate to build so many life-long friendships.
An extraordinary cook and the warm heart at the centre of an ever-growing family, Marion welcomed friends and relatives into her home and cottage for decades, feeding them well and making everyone feel like they’d arrived exactly where they were meant to be.
Marion had a gift for filling a room with laughter — her unique joke-telling style and her beloved “Marionisms” were entirely her own, and entirely irreplaceable.
Through a lifetime of love, kindness, and patience that never seemed to run out, Marion has left behind a beautiful legacy in the people who carry her with them.
We wish to thank the wonderful staff at Résidence St. Louis and The Promenade for their compassionate and dedicated care.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Dementia Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County, or a charity of your choosing.
A Celebration of Life will be held on July 12, 2026 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Besserer Place at 889 Hiawatha Park Road, in Hiawatha Hall.
