Marion Greene

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Marion Greene (Peach) on July 28 in Toronto, Ontario. Born in 1953 at Glace Bay General Hospital to Franklyn and Marguerite Peach (Ferguson), she remained a Cape Bretoner at heart. After graduating from Morrison High School and Dalhousie University, she moved to Toronto, where she built her life and raised her family.

She is survived by her two daughters, Leslie Greene and Jennifer Greene (Ethan Breau); her six beloved grandchildren, Kara, Kieran, Luna, Penelope, Isabelle, and Louis; and her loving siblings, Eleanor Gallant (Peach) and Ralph Peach. 

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Eugene Peach.Throughout her life, Marion was passionate about building people and communities. She had a kind heart that led her to volunteer for many causes and dedicate her professional life to helping those in need. She cared deeply about building a healthy, compassionate, and productive society, bringing that commitment to both her work as a social worker in Parkdale and her everyday life. Marion also volunteered as an instructor with the Taoist Tai Chi Society.

Marion found joy in good food and the arts. Among her favourites were Indian food, vegetarian pad thai, and, of course, fish and chips. She loved listening to classical music, ABBA, and Rita MacNeil, and enjoyed attending plays in Stratford. Some of her happiest moments were spent walking to Bloor West Village with her daughters for Polish paczki, exploring Roncesvalles in search of the perfect cabbage roll, learning the stories of people she had just met, and discovering new exhibitions at the Royal Ontario Museum and the Art Gallery of Ontario.

Marion wasn't afraid to challenge the norm and approached life with curiosity, compassion, and an open mind. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honour Marion's memory are invited to perform an act of kindness for someone in need.
