It's never a good time to say goodbye to someone you love. On Thursday, June 11, at 8:02 pm, we had to say goodbye to our wonderful, kind, silly, eccentric, stubborn mom, loving granny and devoted friend. Georgette LeGallais (nee Séguin) died peacefully after a very swift and difficult illness. After having been healthy and active most of her life, this was definitely NOT an ending she would have picked. But, as Mom would say "oh well, what can ya do?"
My mom has been a hard worker her whole life, starting with full time work at 15, only coming home on weekends, so she could help the family. She has worked multiple different jobs, and in every one of them, she was loved and appreciated by coworkers and clients alike. She LOVED flowers, and in her last years, she took great joy in making my (her daughter's) yard look beautiful. I hope I can continue to do it justice. Mom had a style all her own, and was NEVER seen without her lipstick on, rings on all fingers, and bracelets and necklaces galore. She took pleasure in small things and was very easy to make happy. She loved animals and always had a sidekick or 2 by her side. One of her favorite pastimes was watching all the birds in our yard.
Georgette is pre-deceased by her parents, whom she lost at young ages, Irene Séguin (Villeneuve) and Rheal Séguin. Also by her partner of 27 years, Barry Young, and her best friend Cheryl. She leaves behind her daughter Kim (Cory) and son Kevin (Becky) as well as her 4 grandchildren Riana, Zachary, Gavin and Sarah. Her family brought her joy and she loved hearing what we were all up to and she loved spending time with us. She also leaves behind some wonderful friends, who will miss her dearly. We can't forget about the pets that are already looking for her - Luna, Kiwi and Tommy.
Whatever comes next, I hope you're with the ones you love that left too soon and that your little dog, Buddy, was the first to meet you. We will miss you, momma. Rest easy.
Per Mom's adamant request, there will be no service. To honor her, just make sure to enjoy the simple pleasures in life. Hot coffee in the morning, glass of wine in the evening, the birds singing, beautiful flowers and time in nature.
Donations in her memory can be made to a local animal rescue of your choosing.
Special thanks to Dr. Farrah Egbuonu , Dr. Toupin, Dr. Macdonald, Fabian (PA), Dr. Alex and Reggie, the nurses and PSWs on 5East, as well as 6East at the Ottawa General Hospital. Thank you all for taking such good care of mom in her last couple of months. It was so appreciated.
