Born in The Hague, the Netherlands, on November 27, 1934, she was the daughter of Paulus Mastenbroek and Pieternella Kooij. She was predeceased by her sister, Alice, and is survived by her brothers, Hendrikus and Paulus, as well as eleven nieces and nephews.

Marian Mastenbroek immigrated to Canada more than fifty years ago. She enjoyed a distinguished career as a diplomat, serving the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in postings around the world, with her final assignment in Ottawa.

A devoted patron of the arts, Marian Mastenbroek pursued studies in music at Carleton University, from which she graduated summa cum laude in 1996. She was an accomplished choral singer and participated in numerous major works at the National Arts Centre with ensembles including the Ewashko Singers and the Cantata Singers of Ottawa.

A long-time and valued member of both the Cantata Singers and the Ottawa Festival Chorus, she derived great joy from her musical pursuits.

Marian Mastenbroek was also a dedicated member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church. She will be fondly remembered and missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
