Maria Carmen
Tellez-O'Mahony
August 8, 1949 – June 2, 2026
Our darling sister Carmen Téllez- O’Manhony was born in Mexico City on August 8, 1949 to Antonio Téllez Torres and Carmen Barrera Rangel. She was the second of six siblings and oldest of five girls.
Carmen had a positive disposition to take on challenges throughout her life, and through her travels and ample and tenacious studies, Carmen obtained a scholarship to the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) in Toronto Canada, where she attained a master’s degree in education. While in Canada she met her future husband John O’Mahony, and they remained married for 45 years until John’s passing on December 14, 2025.
Carmen was compassionate and charitable towards, not only her family, but all of those around her. Her gregarious manner and charm won the hearts of many people, who ultimately became her friends.
Carmen was always eager to promote her Mexican heritage and culture through the publication of her own monthly magazine 'Qué Pasa,' as well as volunteering at the Royal Ontario Museum with its yearly Latin American exhibits, or simply through her love of Mexican cooking.
She is survived by her siblings Antonio, Martha, Ana María, Teresa and Leticia, as well as her nieces and nephews Erica, Marie Christine, John and Edward, and the newest additions to our family, Grace and John Fergus.
She will be dearly missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing her.
