Margaret Battell at the esteemed age of 94, 3 months and 2 weeks, passed away peacefully at the Royal Victoria Hospital on the afternoon of November 21, 2025. Her wish at the end was that she lived longer than her husband, which she managed to do by 2 weeks. She is the much-loved wife of Brian (dec'd July 6, 2023), Mother to Martin (dec'd Sept 5, 2018) and Linda. And cherished grandmother to Aaron, Joshua (Jess), Chelsea (Edward), and Jordan, as well as great-grandmother to D.J., Athena, Theodore and Lillian.
Margaret was born on August 7, 1931, in Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk, England and spent her childhood surviving the 2nd World War, while studying piano and voice. At 31 years of age, she and her husband moved their family to Canada to begin a new adventure. Keeping busy in their retail store, and not retiring until 2002 when Margaret was 71, she was active and engaged in life right to the end.
She will be missed by everyone who knew her, especially her infectious laugh and fabulous sense of humour.
God saw you getting tired,
When a cure was not to be.
So He wrapped His arms around you,
And whispered, "Come to me."
You didn't deserve what you went through,
So He gave you rest.
God's garden must be beautiful,
He only takes the best.
And when I saw you sleeping,
So peaceful and free from pain,
I could not wish you back
To suffer that again.
