It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Madeleine Andrea Blanchard (née Laplante), beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and friend, who passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by her family, on November 26, 2024. She was 87 years old.
Born on July 30, 1937, Madeleine was a woman of grace, strength and remarkable spirit. Throughout her life she was a constant source of love, laugher and light for all who knew her. Madeleine was happily married to Roger Blanchard until his passing in 1992. She later found love with Gerald St. Germain until his passing in 2017. Predeceased by her son, Alain Blanchard, a loss that she carried with quiet dignity. She is survived by her two daughters, Lyne Blanchard and Chantal Bourdeau, and her cherished grandchildren, Martine Malette, Celeste Blanchard, Elizabeth Bourdeau and Caleb Bourdeau. She also leaves behind her loving siblings, Denise Goyette, Philippe Laplante, Paul Laplante, Lise Peskett, Pierrette Aseltine, Sylvianne Lamadeleine and lots of nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her brother Raymond Laplante and sisters, Sylvie Dagenais and Francoise Burns.
For the past four years, she has been battling Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, a debilitating condition that took a toll on her body, but never diminished her indomitable spirit, her sharp wit, infectious sense of humor and ability to light up any room with her unforgettable smile. Her family and friends will forever remember her as a beacon of love and joy—someone who brought people together with her kindness, her laughter and her wisdom. Madeleine’s legacy lives on in the hearts of all who loved her.
A celebration of life to honor her memory will be held at a later date.
Madeleine’s passing leaves a void that will be deeply felt, but the light she brought into this world will continue to shine through her family, friends and the many lives she touched. Rest in peace, Madeleine. You will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
