Laird Hugh Roddick

October 20, 1952 — October 9, 2025

Ottawa

It is with love and sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Laird Hugh Roddick in Ottawa, Ontario on October 9, 2025, in his 73rd year.

Hugh will be sadly missed by his wife Diane (née Bouffard), his son Stephen, his daughters Katrina (Anthony) and Jessi, and his grandson Nikolas. Hugh also leaves behind his sister Nancy, his sister-in-law Pat, Rachelle (Robb), and Carolyn (Paul), as well as brother-in-law Alain, his niece and nephews, as well as many close friends.

Hugh was predeceased by his beloved granddaughter Eve, his father Bill, mother Audrey, and brother Andy. He was also predeceased by his father-in-law Ernie, mother-in-law Mary, brother in-law John, and sister-in-law Denise.

Hugh pursued his many interests over the years. He first discovered his love of sailing on Lake Massawippi in Ayer's Cliff, Québec, and later sailed regularly at the Nepean Sailing Club in Ottawa, Ontario. Hugh also enjoyed swimming and biking. There was nothing Hugh liked better than starting a project, although completing them was a bit more of a challenge. Hugh was very proud that he and Diane, with the help of their friends and family, built their house in Osgoode literally from the ground up. Hugh was very environmentally conscious, starting with recycling pop cans while at the University of Guelph in the early 1970's and continuing over the years by ensuring that his projects were as environmentally friendly as possible and supporting environmental stewardship where he could.

To honour Hugh's wishes, a funeral service will not be held. Family and friends may share their condolences and memories in the Guestbook. Hugh's family plan to organize a celebration of his life at a later date.

If desired, in memoriam donations may be made to the The Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario , the Roger Neilson Children’s Hospice, or to The Dementia Society of Ottawa & Renfrew County.

The family would like to thank all who supported them through Hugh's illness. Your kindness has, and continues to be, of great comfort.
