Keith Philip Jay, aged 38, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2026, in Ottawa, after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by the unwavering love and support of his parents, Joyce and Phil Jay, at the hospital at the time of his passing.
Born on March 26, 1987, Keith lived a life marked by dedication, compassion, and a strong sense of community. He began his career as a wildlife conservation officer, demonstrating his deep commitment to the natural world. His path then led him to serve with distinction in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Newfoundland before moving to Ottawa to join the Ottawa Police Service. Throughout his professional journey, Keith earned the respect and admiration of colleagues and friends alike for his steadfast dedication to public service.
Keith was a man of many passions and talents. Known for his love of fishing and hunting, he found joy in the outdoors, appreciating the tranquility and challenge of nature. Beyond his professional and recreational pursuits, Keith had a generous spirit and was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. He was also known for his culinary skills, often delighting family, friends, and coworkers with his cooking, which became a cherished way of bringing people together.
In his final days, Keith shared precious moments with his best friend, Zac MacMillan, engaging joyfully in building Lego sets—a testament to his enduring spirit and love for meaningful connections.
Keith is survived by his dear parents, Joyce and Phil Jay; his brother, Richard Jay, and sister-in-law, Jessica Jay; as well as his beloved nieces and nephew, Gwen, Ariel, and Aslan. He is also remembered fondly by several aunts, uncles, and cousins who shared in his life and will carry forward his memory with love.
Cremation has taken place, and a private cemetery service will be held at the Wyoming Cemetery in Ontario, attended solely by family members. In celebration of Keith’s life and legacy, a public Celebration of Life will be arranged in his hometown at a later date, allowing friends and community members to honor and remember him together.
Keith Philip Jay’s life, marked by resilience, dedication, and kindness, leaves an indelible imprint on all who knew him. His memory will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of sharing in his journey.
