With profound love and remembrance, we celebrate the life of Judith Raye Murphy—known fondly to family and friends as Judy—who departed this world on July 7, 2026. Born on March 15, 1948, Judith’s journey through life was marked by devotion to family, warmth of spirit, and an abiding love that touched all who knew her.

Judith was the cherished wife of Francis Murphy, and together they wove a life rich in partnership, laughter, and shared memories. Their love endured the seasons, providing a foundation for a family that was always at the center of Judith’s heart. She was a devoted mother to Colleen Murphy and Sean Murphy, whose lives were shaped by her unwavering support, gentle guidance, and boundless affection. Her family grew to include her beloved daughter-in-law Kristy Murphy, who found in Judith both a mentor and friend.

Judith’s life was further brightened by her grandchildren—Jacob Murphy, Ariella van der Sluis, and Brittany Hoover. Each one brought her immeasurable joy, and she cherished every moment spent encouraging, nurturing, and celebrating their unique gifts. Her role as “Grandma” was one of her greatest joys, and her gentle laughter and thoughtful presence will be remembered in the fond recollections of bedtime stories, shared hobbies, and the festive clatter of family gatherings.

Her gentle hands were rarely still, as she found peace and delight in knitting, a craft she lovingly shared with those around her. Judith also treasured quiet afternoons spent curled up with a favorite novel, nurturing her love of reading. Music was a source of comfort and happiness for her, especially the powerful voice of Celine Dion, whose melodies brought light to many of Judith’s days.

Judith’s kindness extended beyond her immediate family. She grew up in a loving home with her father Raymond Smith, mother Gladys Smith, brother Roger Smith, and sister Glenna Stevens, all of whom preceded her in passing. Their lasting influence instilled in her a strength of character and compassion that she, in turn, passed to the next generation.

In her later years, Judith and her family were profoundly grateful for the dedicated care and dignity shown by the Alzheimer Society of Peel and the devoted staff at Extendicare Halton Hills. Their support brought comfort and solace, and the family extends heartfelt thanks to these remarkable caregivers.

Judith Raye Murphy’s life was a testament to devoted love, quiet strength, and the importance of family. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of those she treasured most: her husband, children, and grandchildren, along with all who were privileged to know her gentle spirit.

Though our hearts ache in missing her, we celebrate her life with gratitude, holding close the memories and love she generously shared.

In place of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada
